About me

How did I get into game development?

Hi, I'm Ian, also known as ChromeWing on social media.

When I was young, I always had a fascination for video games.  I first started playing Frogger, Croc, and web games.  Eventually I played console games and MMORPGs.  I also enjoyed making abstract strategy board games when I was a kid.

One day, I stumbled upon a 2D physics sandbox called Phun (now called Algodoo).  I would make many different creations.  I started making games in the sandbox and learned about its scripting language called Thyme.  I enjoyed the coding and eventually learned I could make my very own games using GameMaker.  I made many prototypes, some of which became bigger prototypes that could be played with winning conditions.

In college, I successfully programmed a hand coded networked game for my signature sidescrolling shooter, "ChromeWing" (named after my username).  I also learned about Processing, a visual graphics engine powered by Java.  Since then, I've learned about Java, C#, JavaScript, various web-based languages, as well as others.  My current goal is to program for a game studio someday!
